In order to determine the rarity of a given Pokémon card, it is important to examine the symbols present on the card's face. Specifically, a black circle signifies a common card, while a diamond indicates an uncommon card. A star symbol denotes a rare card, and should be noted accordingly. Furthermore, if a card has a single black star that displays the word "promo," it is likely that it was included as part of a booster box purchase. Additionally, if a card features two golden stars, it is classified as a secret rare card. This information can be invaluable for collectors and enthusiasts seeking to identify and evaluate various Pokémon cards in their collection.

For Scarlet and Violet (someone please make a SWSH!)

Circle = Common (C), you get 4 of these from a SV pack.

Diamond = Uncommon (U), you get 3 of these from a SV pack.

Black Star = Rare (R), in the SV era, rares are always holographic, whether in the rare slot or as a reverse holo. This is the minimum guarantee for a SV pack.

2 Black Stars = Double Rare (RR), an ex, a card with boosted attacks and HP, and an essential part of a battle deck. There are also the more sparkly Teraform ex's, which are slightly rarer but still fall under the same rarity.

2 Silver Stars = Ultra Rare/Full Art/Super Rare (UR,SR), an ex, Teraform or normal, or a trainer. These cards fill the whole frame of the card and show the Pokemon or Trainer's full body. They have etching, or texturing. No matter what you call them, they are all the same rarity.

*Outlined Gold Star = Shiny Rare (S), a regular Pokemon with an an alternate coloration. The image in the card is textured, and very reflective.

*2 Oulined Gold Stars = Shiny Full Art , one of the Pokemon availible in the set as a Shiny Rare, but in an Ultra Rare, full art format. Can be Teraform,

1 Gold Star = Illustration Rare (IR), an alternate verson of a common, uncommon, or rare with a full, detailed artwork.

2 Gold Stars = Special Illustration Rare (SIR), either an ex with Illustration Rare-type art, or a more detailed artwork of a Trainer. (Pokemon on SIR's can also be Shiny in select expansions, like Paldean Fates)

3 Gold Stars = Hyper Rare (HR), reserved for only "Gold Cards", a card with a golden foil (or a turqouise and golden foil) design, SV base to Paradox Rift have a normal gold pattern, and Paldean Fates to present have a turquoise and gold design. Hyper Rares display either an item or Pokemon as an ex.

Rarities with a * next to them are rarities only present in shiny sets, such as Paldean Fates.

Hope this helps the community out!
